Volunteer: Teach English to Immigrants - Woodridge

As a tutor, work one-on-one with an immigrant or new citizen and provide English literacy lessons along with cultural mentoring.

Tutors help students become an active member of their community in various ways:

* practice real world conversations relevant to the student's life and goals
* work with a student in their job search
* explain to a student how to rent an apartment or buy a new home
* prepare for their citizenship test

Tutors meet with their student for one hour a week during the academic school year. A Program Manager is on-site to provide guidance and support.

We are at the Woodridge ARC once a week:

Monday: 9:00a - 2:00p.

We are at over 15 sites in DuPage and Western Cook County, Monday through Friday. 9:00a - 2:00p, 3p-8p.

No experience necessary. A 12-hour free training is provided and required.

We are looking for tutors who are patient, encouraging, willing to learn, and are welcoming to people from different backgrounds. TEACH tutors are responsive to an individual’s language and cultural challenges.

Volunteer: Community Research Volunteer - Help Us Grow Our Impact!

TEACH is expanding it's network and we need support in researching civic and cultural centers in the area that we can speak to and partner with to recruit tutors, students, and supporters.

Through free adult individualized English instruction and cultural mentoring, we work toward systemic change in society by empowering students to build their strengths and navigate U.S. culture.

The Community Research Volunteer would identify and compile a list of civic and cultural groups in DuPage and Western Cook County. With this information, TEACH staff will follow up with them about future partnerships so we can provide our important services to more students.

We are seeking a volunteer comfortable with using the internet with a great attention to detail, research skills, creative thinking, and organization skills. Awareness of the local community and networks is ideal.

We could use support 1 to 5 hours a week, with the ability to volunteer at home with periodic visits to the office to check in.
