Who We Are
“Walk With Compassion” Coming to Chicago, IL on Saturday, October 8, 2016
| Community-Based Fundraiser Brings the Mission of Helping Children in Extreme Poverty Closer to Home
Chicago, IL — August 25, 2016 — Compassion International is bringing its national community engagement event series called Walk with Compassion to Chicago area on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Walk with Compassion is the walk to end child poverty.
Global Child Poverty
Despite a massive reduction in extreme poverty rates around the world since 1981, World Bank estimates more than 700 million people live on less than $1.90 a day.[1]
Children are especially vulnerable to the challenges of severe poverty, with a third of all poor in the developing world aged 12 and under.[2] Too many lack access to clean water and basic sanitation, shelter, and emergency medical care. One third of victims of human trafficking are children.
Walk With Compassion
Walk with Compassion is focused on raising support to meet the urgent needs of these especially vulnerable populations of children. Leading up to the day of the walk, local teams, churches, businesses, and individuals will spread the word and invite members of the community to support this cause. On the day of the walk, we will gather to celebrate the impact of our fundraising and to experience first hand how our efforts transform the lives of children. Visit WalkWithCompassion.com/video to hear what past participants have said about the event.
Compassion International is confident that, with initiatives like Walk with Compassion, we can all work together to end child poverty around the world.

About Compassion International
Since 1952, the mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name has propelled the organization into a global ministry, partnering with 6,900 Christian churches in 26 countries. Through a holistic child development program, more than 1.7 million babies, children, and students have been released from poverty. Its large child sponsorship program is the only one to be validated through independent, empirical research.
Where the Money Goes
Compassion International has been awarded the highest rating for financial stewardship and transparency by Charity Navigator, America’s largest charity evaluator. Walk with Compassion events raise non-sponsorship funds that are then designated to meet the most strategic and urgent needs of children. Working through on-the-ground partners, Compassion evaluates opportunities to identify interventions that will make the greatest difference for children suffering from extreme poverty. Examples of these include: disaster relief, clean water & hygiene, HIV/Aids response, disease prevention, and emergency medical care. What We Do
Compassion Interntional: www.compassion.com
Sponsoring a Child is Just Part of Compassion's Ministry to Children in Need.
Sponsor a Child — At Compassion we take a committed, long-term approach to fighting child poverty. Our Holistic Child Development Model is made up of four comprehensive programs investing in children from the beginning of their lives until they’ve reached adulthood, and covering everything from prenatal care to university-level education.
Our one-to-one Child Sponsorship Program allows you to personally connect with a specific child in poverty and build a life-changing relationship. When you sponsor a child, you have the opportunity to influence that child during adolescence, one of the most pivotal developmental periods.
Compassion is not just a child sponsorship organization though. Three additional programs round out the holistic child development model of our work with children in poverty. Those other programs of our model include: Child Survival, Leadership Development and Complementary Interventions.
