Overview: 

The volunteer Grant Researcher & Writer plays a key role in helping the organization secure funding by identifying grant opportunities and crafting compelling proposals. This position supports the mission by turning organizational needs and program goals into clear, persuasive narratives that resonate with funders. Training provided.

Key responsibilities: 

  • Research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources through online sources
  • Evaluate eligibility criteria and funding priorities to determine strong matches
  • Gather information from staff and organizational documents
  • Draft, edit, and format grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting materials
  • Maintain a calendar of deadlines, submission dates, and reporting requirements
  • Track submitted proposals and outcomes
  • Ensure all written content reflects the organization's mission, voice and goals

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities
  • Research skills and comfort navigating databases, websites, and public records
  • Ability to summarize information and present it clearly
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Interest in nonprofit work, community impact, or fundraising
  • Prior grant writing experience is helpful but not required

Time commitment

Flexible depending on availability, this volunteer role can be done remotely with a few hours a week, or what you are able to volunteer. We are very appreciative of any help in this area.
