Who We Are

CWA educates children with special needs in a traditional classroom environment. A typical day consists of regular academic subjects (reading, mathematics, science, music and physical education). The children also attend individual sessions with speech, reading and physical therapy specialists. Annual events include an October Homecoming Week, a Christmas  Pageant, Spring Musical/Talent Show in May and Graduation Ceremony in June. Each summer, many of our students participate in an eight week Summer School. This is a much anticipated experience which includes field trips and excursions.

What We Do

Clare Woods Academy is a theraputic day school founded in 1968. CWA re-located to Wheaton in the summer of 2013. We serve eight-five (85) children from over thirty (30+) public school districts within the six county area. All of our students, ages 6 - 22, have learning and/or behavioral disabilities. Many are on the autism spectrum also. A staff of ninety-five (95) professional educators and theraputic specialists are employed at the Wheaton campus. Our mission is to assist children and young adults  to become self-sufficient and self-directed in areas of personal growth, general health, education, social and emotional well being and functonal living skills
