Who We Are
Homeownership with Chicago South Suburbs Habitat for Humanity begins with us! We are the committee that informs, interviews, and recommends families for our Homeownership program. We are a committee of men and women from a variety of work experiences, backgrounds, and ages. This committee offers great rewards and a flexible commitment to the tasks we perform.
What We Do
The committee meets once a month on the second Tuesday and conducts information sessions where a presenter and an assistant provide a PowerPoint presentation to interested folks. Once a Homeownership application has been received, Habitat staff reviews the application and a team of 2 volunteers conducts an in-home interview which takes about 2 hours. The Family Servies Committee reviews the information from the interviewers in person or by conference call and writes a Letter of Recommendation to the Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs Board of Directors. Once the family is accepted into the program a volunteer is assigned to the family as a Future Homeowner Mentor. Mentorship is generally an 8-12 month commitment that is intended to assist the family with weekly check-ins and act as a liaison between the Future Homeowner and Habitat staff.
