Who We Are

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is a resident-centered advocacy program dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for individuals living in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen conduct regular visits to monitor conditions and quality of care, while serving as a voice for residents who may be unable to advocate for themselves. They make every reasonable effort to assist, empower, represent, and intervene on behalf of residents to ensure their rights and well-being are upheld.

What We Do

The Ombudsman Program is seeking dedicated Ombudsman Volunteers to make monthly visits to facilities in their local community. Volunteers advocate for residents by empowering them to voice concerns and by helping resolve minor complaints. More complex issues requiring ongoing support are referred to the Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator.

Ombudsman Volunteers should demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills, along with empathy and sound judgment. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and are required to complete a background check and conflict-of-interest screening. Comprehensive training is provided, including coursework, supervised visits, and ongoing in-service training.

Ombudsman Volunteers play a vital role in improving the lives of residents and take pride in knowing their efforts positively impact residents’ quality of life. For more information, please contact DuPage County Senior Services at (630) 407-6500.
