Who We Are
The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is a resident-directed advocacy program which protects and improves the quality of life for residents in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen regularly visit these facilities, monitor conditions and care, and provide a voice for those unable to speak for themselves. Ombudsmen make every reasonable effort to assist, empower, represent and intervene on behalf of the resident.
What We Do
The Ombudsman Program seeks Ombudsman Volunteers to make monthly visits to a facility in their community to empower residents and resolve minor complaints. Complex complaints requiring ongoing assistance will be reported to the Ombudsman Volunteer Coordinator.
Ombudsman Volunteers must have exceptional communication and problem-solving skills, empathy and good judgment. Volunteers must be over the age of 18, participate in a background check and conflict of interest screening, complete training courses with supervised training visits, and attend ongoing in-service trainings.
Volunteers make a difference in the lives of those they represent and enjoy knowing they have positively impacted the quality of life for those residents. For more information, please contact DuPage County Senior Services at (630) 407-6500.
