DuPage County Senior Services Volunteer Money Management Program

Who We Are

We match Money Management volunteers with low-income seniors in the community in order to keep them in their homes as long as possible. We need self-starting, independent volunteers, able to develop working relationships with clients, who can set up online banking, negotiate accounts, and arrange online payments.  Short-term volunteers will be setting up accounts for clients to manage themselves and create budgets. Long-term volunteers may monitor accounts to avoid overdrafts, keep and balance a register, make sure bills get paid, assist with medical bills and filing, apply for appropriate benefits, help clients manage debt. and explain mail the client doesn't understand.

Clients live in DuPage County, are involved in other DuPage County programs and are screened prior to volunteer involvement. Volunteers visit clients in their homes. The Money Management Coordinator is available to volunteers for questions and support.  Volunteers have kept clients in DuPage County in their homes for years longer than without Money Management involvement.

What We Do

The Volunteer Money Management Program of DuPage County (Community Services) is a program sponsored by the Illinois Department on Aging. Volunteers are trained, supervised, and monitored by the Money Management Coordinator. The goal of the Money Management Program is to keep seniors in their homes as long as possible. Many clients stay in the program for years, some with the same volunteer, others with more than one. Flexible hourly involvement can range from 1-10 hours per month. We ask for a commitment of a year, and time off can be covered by others.

Fingerprinting and background checks are done by the Sheriff's Office. Training and interviews can be done in person or via Zoom
