What We Do

H.O.M.E. DuPage Inc., is the community leader and resource, providing basic money management, financial literacy and homeownership education to resident of DuPage County. Founded in 1991, our mission is provide a full range of services to promote responsible, sustainable homeownership, with an emphasis on serving first-time homebuyers, low and moderate income households and homeowners in crisis. H.O.M.E. is a HUD-certified, nationally recognized organization that provides free pre-purchase mortgage, in-depth financial literacy education, foreclosure prevention and counseling.

Our Homebuyer Education workshop is ideal for individuals and families ready to begin the home purchase process. Gateway to Homeownership Orientation offers an introduction to basic budgeting and an overview of available financing programs. Individual sessions are available to provide buyers with a financial analysis, strategies to overcome barriers to homeownership and follow-up support.

Help for Low-Income Buyers is available through the DuPage Homestead Program which provides down payment assistance fo qualifying low and moderate income families. Qualifying participants must complete H.O.M.E. DuPage counseling before their home purchase.

In 2008, when the recession and foreclosure crisis hit, H.O.M.E. enhanced it services to aid those facing the loss of their home. Offering both group and individual pre-foreclosure counseling H.O.M.E. has helped homeowners avoid foreclosure by  assisting them in evaluating their options, and loan modification requests.  A unique "Counselor in the Courtroom" program in the County's Foreclosure Court serves as one entrance point into foreclosure services.

One on one counseling is available for senior's who wish to educate and empower themselves to better manage their assets and evaluate their options to maintain their homes and independence.

Continuing to adapt to community needs, H.O.M.E. has created a financial capabilities program. The Financial Fitness Program, a series of six workshops teaching budgeting, banking, credit repair, debt reduction, building savings and wise consumerism for individuals and families. Qualifying participants are  then eligible for  one-on-one coaching necessary to encourage behavioral changes required for life long success. H.O.M.E partners with more than 15 area not-for-profits to provide their clients financial education and counseling to meet the ever growing needs of our community.
