Senior Suburban Orchestra

Who We Are

The Senior Suburban Orchestra (SSO) provides an opportunity for older musicians to continue playing their instruments on a regular basis as members of an active and challenging performance organization.

As a community service organization, the SSO provides educational and entertaining orchestral performances to persons lacking the physical mobility or financial resources to attend traditional public programs.

The SSO also provides an innovative "side-by-side" concert/workshop for elementary school children in their own schools.

Typical concert venues include retirement/healthcare facilities, senior groups, elementary schools, and libraries.

What We Do

The Senior Suburban Orchestra (SSO) is a 50-piece orchestra drawing musicians from more than 20 western suburbs and outlying areas.  The musicians have from 3 to 70+ years experience playing their instruments and range in age from their 40s to 90s.

SSO was launched in September 2000 and is currently based at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Downers Grove.  Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday afternoons, and up to 20 weekday concerts per season are scheduled from September through May.  Auditions are not required.  New members are always welcome.
