Who We Are
Through the power of support, Teen Parent Connection helps young moms and dads confront challenges and create opportunities.
Since 1985 our mission has been to provide teen parents with support, information, and resources to help them navigate their lives as parents and as teenagers.
Teen Parent Connection's seamless network of programs offer both group and individual support at all stages of parenthood through the following:
Doula Services: Doulas provide prenatal care/labor & delivery information and support before, during, and after labor through weekly home visits. The Doula supports early parent-child bonding, breastfeeding initiation, and conducts post-partum depression screenings.
Perinatal Groups: Group meetings, including feeding support and postpartum support group, provide teen parents with valuable information about maintaining a healthy pregnancy, choosing a doctor, common prenatal tests, fetal development, as well as support and guidance with breastfeeding and beyond.
Childbirth Education Classes: Classes over an eight week period cover prenatal care, developing birth plans, and preparing for labor and delivery. Support partners are encouraged to attend.
Parent Groups: Weekly teen parent group meetings provide additional educational and social support opportunities that help reduce the isolation young parents often face.
Home Visiting Program: Our team of Home Visitors provide parenting information covering overall health and development of the child through weekly home visits. This program offers services at various levels of intensity over the first five years of the child’s life.
Young Father Engagement: Empowering young dads to be the best version of themselves as they navigate the role of being a young father. Fathers gain support in various topics, such as budgeting, goal setting, co-parenting, employment assistance, and childcare. This program is designed to work with fathers' busy schedules.
Mental Health Services: Teen Parent Connection hosts two PsyD candidates who provide counseling services to families as part of their therapy practicum. Families have the opportunity to receive counseling at the office or through home visits.
Parents’ Pantry: An incentive based pantry where participants can purchase items such as diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, and hygiene products using “baby bucks” earned when parents set and meet goals.
Prevention Program: As part of a pregnancy/STI prevention presentation, young parents trained as peer educators inform students at local Junior High and High Schools about the realities and challenges of being a young parent.
What We Do
Teen Parent Connection is a nonprofit agency serving teen parents in DuPage County as they navigate the challenges of both parenthood and adolescence. In addition, we offer school-based pregnancy prevention education programs in middle schools and high schools to help reduce the risk of teen pregnancy.
We are a staff, board, and community dedicated to empowering young families and creating the best possible start for young mothers, young fathers, and their babies.
Teen Parent Connection is the only nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization in DuPage County exclusively focused on providing comprehensive programs and services related to teenage pregnancy and parenting.
Mission: To serve the community through education on the realities and responsibilities of teenage pregnancy, and through long-term assistance to adolescent parents for their development of self-esteem, parenting skills, and empowerment toward self-sufficiency.
