Readers Ignite

Some things we have worked on:

1.  Bring awareness to literacy issues, especially as it relates to children and families.  We offer two presentations:

  Raising a Reader in Our Digital Age

  Our Nation's Literacy -- A Wake-up Call

2.  Connect underserved families / children to things like "Read to a Stuffie," topical events connecting passions (sport, trains, music) to reading, Laundromat Storytimes

3. Get books to underserved children through community events and schools

 The mission of Readers Ignite is to bring reading resources to at-risk or underserved communities, primarily in the western suburbs.  However, as needs have come up, we have also worked with other groups, in the City of Chicago, as well as gotten books to nearby areas that have had horrific weather incidents.

As a fairly new organization, we are looking to increase literacy in ways that carry LARGE amounts of impact, preferably using existing structures or environments to do so. This will maximize the investments made into literacy efforts. All of these ideas are scalable, and could be done at a variety of similar facilities, for larger or smaller groups, as finances allowed.
