Who We Are

DuPage County's Division of Transportation (DOT) is the department in charge of constructing, maintaining, and planning roadways and trails under the County's jurisdiction.  The County possesses jurisdiction over 950 lane miles of roadway and 50 centerline miles of designated regional trails.  Thirty-four municipalities have incorporated property within the County's borders, and the DOT owns roads through nearly all of them.

What We Do

Laid-back, enjoyable, and rewarding.  We offer those kinds of volunteer opportunities at your doorstep.

DuPage County DOT hosts a pair of programs collectively known as the Adopt-a-Highway program.  Groups of volunteers can adopt 1 to 2-mile segments of County highways or County trails to clean trash and debris four times throughout the year.  As of 2018, the Adopt-a-Highway program has 46 groups adopting 33 miles of county highways and 13 miles of trails.  Adopters organize clean-up events for the four dates that they choose.

Adopters are provided safety vests and trash bags by the DOT.  Adopter groups may vary in size and background.  Neighborhood associations, businesses, religious institutions, and scout troops make up the majority of our program participants.  All affiliations are welcome.
