Who We Are
Homeownership with DuPage Habitat begins with us! We are the committee that informs, interviews, and recommends families for our Home-ownership program. We are currently a committee of 12 women and men from a variety of work experiences, backgrounds, and ages. This committee offers great rewards and a flexible commitment to the tasks we perform.
What We Do
The committee meets once a month on the 4th Thursday and conducts monthly information sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays where a presenter and an assistant will provide a power point presentation to interested folks. Once a Homeowner application has been received, DuPage Habitat staff reviews the application and a team of 2 volunteers conduct an in-home interview which takes about 2 hours. The Family Services Committee reviews the information from the interviewers in person or by conference call and writes a Letter of Recommendation to the DuPage Habitat Board of Directors. Once the family is accepted into the program a volunteer is assigned to the family as a Sponsor Advocate and Friend (SAF). This is generally a 8-12 month commitment intended to assist the family with weekly check-ins and act as liaison between the Future Homeowner and the DuPage Habitat staff.
Volunteering on this committee is highly rewarding and has flexibility that works well if you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that fits into your schedule. Come Join up!!
