Who We Are
More than 13 million U.S. children went to school today and received some of the only meals on which they can depend, the food from the federal free and reduced-price meal programs. When their school closes its doors on Fridays, many of these children go home to empty cupboards and hunger pangs for 65 hours until they return to school on Monday. Blessings in a Backpack ensures these students leave school on Fridays with a bag of weekend nutrition.
What We Do
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide weekend food for school-age children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Incorporated in 2008, Blessings has become a leader in the movement to end childhood hunger. Blessings partnered with more than 1,100 schools in 44 states and Washington D.C. to provide 89,579 kids with more than 3 million hunger-free weekends during the 2021-2022 school year.
